Abigail Kaspszyk

Abigail Kaspszyk

Abby brings a fresh perspective to the practice of law. Like all attorneys at Pillar+Aught, Abby’s practice is dynamic and not limited to just one area of the law. She provides clients with a wide variety of legal services on both litigation-related matters and transactional issues, including drafting loan agreements, ensuring compliance with SEC and UCC requirements, defending against allegations of discrimination, and assisting in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements (to name just a few).

Before joining Pillar+Aught, Abby worked as a legal intern for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. In that role, Abby worked alongside the Department’s Deputy Chief Counsel to help enforce a range of labor and employment laws and regulations, including unemployment compensation regulations, occupational and industry safety standards, right-to-know laws, and wage and labor laws.

Abby graduated from East Stroudsburg University and thereafter obtained her J.D. from Widener Commonwealth School of Law with academic honors. During her time at Widener, Abby was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, which successfully argued its case in Washington D.C. as part of the National Telecommunications and Technology Competition. Abby was also a Research Assistant during her years in law school, which involved extensive research into areas concerning loan approvals and authorization of foreign banks. Additionally, Abby enjoyed pro bono work with Pennsylvania’s Civil Law Clinic.

Abby was the 2022 recipient of the Commonwealth Court Historical Society – Judge Alexander F. Barbieri Award, an award that honors law students who demonstrate excellence in the field of Administrative Law. During her time at East Stroudsburg University, Abby ran cross country and track, and she was a recipient of the PSAC Women’s Track & Field Champion Scholar Award, which recognizes the student-athlete with the highest grade point average competing at the PSAC’s championship finals.

Abby is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

Angela McGowan

Angela McGowan

You can depend on Angela. With deep experience in the negotiation and execution of business and real estate transactions, Angela brings confidence and thoughtfulness to any deal. She regularly counsels developers, landowners, and business owners in the leasing, zoning, financing, purchase and sale of commercial properties, and all aspects of real estate law. She has extensive experience in representing landowners with regard to oil and gas pipeline easements,  oil and gas leasing, and other real estate issues related to oil and gas operations.  She has represented clients in tax assessment appeals, variance and special exceptions requests and other zoning and land use matters.

In addition to her areas of expertise and true to all Pillar+Aught attorneys, Angela is proficient in several practice areas, which helps provide global guidance for clients.  She regularly represents financial institutions and businesses related to entity formation, governance, mergers and acquisitions, lending, and workout and collection matters.  She has represented numerous clients in significant multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions and multi-million dollar loan transactions.  She is also well-versed in all areas of corporate law.

Angela was a Central Penn Business Journal’s 2017 “Forty Under 40” winner and a 2016 “Women of Influence” winner. She graduated first in her class from Widener University School of Law, and was the recipient of the President’s Award for her scholastic achievement and high potential for meaningful contribution to the law school, community, and profession.  She is active in the community serving on the Business Advising Certificate Advisory Board  at Widener Commonwealth Law School since its inception. She is a member of the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors, the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and Dauphin County Bar Association and has acted as general counsel to the Harrisburg Young Professionals.

Cory A. Iannacone

Jeffrey E. Kaylor

Jeffrey E. Kaylor

Jeff is not your typical tax lawyer.  While he has advised private sector clients on matters related to mergers and acquisitions, asset and stock sales, fund formation and debt and equity offerings, he has also acted as counsel to the government with respect to a multitude of tax issues.

Following his tenure at an international law firm where he represented publicly traded companies, private equity firms and hedge funds, Jeff was an attorney with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue where he provided legal guidance on tax issues associated with Pennsylvania’s personal income tax, corporate net income tax, gross receipts tax, insurance premiums tax, and bank shares tax.  The knowledge gained while practicing in both the private and public sectors has afforded Jeff a unique perspective, better enabling him to achieve the best result for his clients.

Jeff graduated from the University of Scranton and thereafter obtained his J.D. from Widener University School of Law and an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida.  When he is not in the office, Jeff enjoys spending time with his three children and golfing.

John R. Martin

John Martin is a happy litigator. Given the contentious nature surrounding litigation, that might sound like an oxymoron… but he assures you it’s not. John fully understands that no one’s first choice is to file (or be served with) a lawsuit. For that reason, he works closely with his clients to address issues or challenges without the need “to get the lawyers involved.”

For more than fifteen years, John’s practice has focused primarily on employment law. He counsels and trains businesses and supervisors on best HR practices when addressing an array of workplace challenges. He writes and lectures frequently on a wide variety of employment law hot (and not-so-hot) topics including social media, non-competes, wage and hour issues, medical marijuana, and workplace harassment. And, yes, when filing a lawsuit simply cannot be avoided, John is no stranger to the courtroom. He brings years of experience and specialized knowledge to each case, and he helps his clients navigate the unique challenges that come with litigation and develop a strategy to ensure the best possible result every time. John enjoys the fight; he has successfully (and happily!) litigated cases in both state and federal court on behalf of companies, government agencies, and individuals located here in Pennsylvania and across the United States.

However, as is common with all Pillar+Aught attorneys, John’s practice is not just limited to his main area of expertise. He is an accomplished business litigator and can assist clients in enforcing their rights whenever contract disputes or similar issues arise. He has also successfully defended against claims asserting constitutional and civil rights violations on behalf of county governments, municipalities, and other public entities.

In 2017, John was recognized by the Central Penn Business Journal as a “Forty Under 40” award recipient. That same year, John and several other attorneys left their firm to create Pillar+Aught, a modern, full-service civil law firm offering both commercial and personal legal counsel with an emphasis on providing clients a high level of expertise and responsiveness. Outside the office, John is active with several non-profit organizations in his community, including serving on the board of the Hershey History Center and being the former board chair of Leadership Cumberland. John lives in Hershey with his wife, their two kids, and their dog, Pete.

With an extensive background in bankruptcy and corporate finance law, Kate has notable experience in Delaware representing debtors, creditors, lenders, and trustees in numerous mega-bankruptcy reorganizations and liquidations. She has also represented debtors and secured creditors, including banks and other lending institutions, in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy cases, sales, structured liquidations, restructurings, and other alternatives to bankruptcy.  Kate has deep experience in creditors’ rights, loan workouts, and commercial lending transactions, and is well versed in all areas of corporate law and commercial transactions relevant to your business.

The Penn State University Dickinson School of Law graduate is also a frequent speaker on lending litigation and the subject of business reorganization. She continues her involvement at her alma mater by serving as a practitioner instructor. Lindsey E. Snavely

Lindsey Snavely pays close attention to the details of your business.  Having previously worked as Counsel, Global Labor & Employment for The Hershey Company, where she supported the Human Resources organization, Lindsey understands the need for practical, actionable business guidance in representing and advising employers.  She regularly provides counseling and training to employers on various workplace issues, including disciplinary matters, leaves of absences, and wage and hour questions.  In addition, Lindsey has defended employers in both single-employee and class/collective actions in state and federal courts, as well as before the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and she routinely represents employers in unemployment compensation hearings.
